Team on the Nid as the weather began to calm |
Navigation legs on Finnisgaig |
We headed out to Aonach Mor today to look at our skills more with a view to snow anchors and a variety of other things along the way. We awoke to overnight snow to sea level but once walking it was blowing fairly hard and raining giving us a fair soaking on the way. Once up by the Nid it cleared with squally showers passing through.
We headed around a little to have a look at the snow pack on the Nid digging in we found some highly unstable layers with the main being the result of the fresh snow along with some wild winds over the last few days. Very easy shears so be wary. We looked at snow anchors and continued up the Nid picking out some mixed ground and scoured snow. The ski area was open although for some reason there was not that many skiers up there. They will I would think be happy for this last snowfall just before half term and the Pisten Bullys where moving it all around getting ready.
