Glen Coe : Winter Navigation

Rapidly forming windslab

I was out with Mike, Mike and Gus today and we had a look at some winter navigation in Glen Coe, the weather was fitting. We headed onto Creag Dhubh. We looked at some bearings, pacings etc. All this was done in some pretty realistic weather the clag was in a it was blowing a little harder than forecast with the visibility down to a few feet at times and snowing hard to. There was also more snowfall than perhaps forecast and was being blown around on a strong wind, there where some areas of slab building in the lee aspects pretty fast.
Its the sheer pleasure of a considerable buffeting that keeps us coming back !
We finished off with a few snow belays and headed down.
The ski area looked to be very busy with a full car park and plenty of folk on the lifts looking pretty cold.
Today I was working for Alan Kimber, West Coast Mountain Guides
